When I was in grade school, I was diagnosed with a learning disability. I was dyslexic as well as simply a slow learner. I used to get teased a lot for it and I felt really bad about myself. Then, in high school I discovered that I really loved history and was fascinated by the interesting events that happened in the past. I started to put in a lot of effort and eventually got an A for the first time in my life! I now plan on majoring in history in college and although this is not a popular subject choice, I am following my heart and in this way I am being myself and being unique. Understanding history has also helped me to develop compassion for people and I know that often things are beyond our control, so I try my best to be kind to everyone I meet.
